Having finished last weekend with a bonus point win over basement side Farnborough RFC. The attention of the Hurricanes now turns on to 4th placed side Fordingbridge RFC. With both Sandown & Shanklin and the visitors sat on 49pts and 48pts respectively, this contest this coming Saturday will go a long way to shaping the final standings of the Snows Group Hampshire 1 League table.
The last time out the reverse of this fixture, away to 'Bridge' saw a close and tough game played out between both sides. On the day the sharper and more alert start from the home side cost the Hurricanes opportunity of a victory. The slower start from the Hurricanes allowed Fordingbridge to race into a 28 - 13 lead at the break. Despite a valiant effort from the boys on the day, all they came away from this trip was two bonus points, as Fordingbridge claimed victory 38 - 34 at the climax.
We all look forward to a cracking encounter again between two sides that both look to play a bit. The Hurricanes off the back of the victory against Farnborough last weekend, are now five victories from six games, and look to continue their good form against the visitors this weekend. The victory did come at a cost however, as prop David Woolfenden sustained a spiral fracture in one of his metacarpals. David will be out for the rest of the season and his impact on the pitch will be missed. Furthermore Captain Sam Rees continues to be sidelined with his troublesome back injury, meaning Sam Flux will deputise in his place. Also unavailable are the Carey (Joel & Ryan) brothers and Henry Bagnall, who are away. The return of Sam Tyson is welcomed, and he will slot into the back line to cause havoc for the opposition defences.
This Saturday is set up to be a great game of rugby, between two sides who will fight tooth and nail to finish the game victorious and help their cause towards the final stages of the 2016/17 season.
