This weekend will see the Hurricanes 2nd XV, host Eastleigh 3rd XV, in the first part of the Christmas Double Header at the Fairway.
This will be the fourth game on the trot that the second team will have hosted at home and the prospects are looking bright; with a lot of young players getting vital game time, which will of course aid their development and is important for experience. Look out for young guns Harry Miselbach, Damian Seder and Oscar Pusey, with ball in hand, as they will be likely to make something happen. Also keep an eye out for tyro Luke Henaghan, hitting rucks and working hard at the breakdown.
It also enables a lot of people to play competitive rugby, outside of the 1st team environment, which again, is a good level of competition for those playing and highly rewarding. Experienced heads like Gregor Dean, The Swallow brothers - Simon & Pete, and Michael Cooper, Tommy 'The Puppeteer' Monks and Martin Keyworth in the back line, provide an accomplished spine to the side.
The Hurricanes 2nd XV current form, in the games they have played is impressive, with three wins in three games - coming against: Romsey RFC 2nd XV, Fawley RFC 2nd XV and the Isle of Wight RFC 2nd XV, in another hotly contested derby game.
Despite the good results and promising signs, the consistency of getting the side out has been an issue. Therefore, we hope that this weekend is a spring board for a strong result for our powerful Hurricanes side and will provide momentum for the boys in 2017 to take the league by the scruff of the neck, as they should with the potential and ability that has been on display in the past few weeks.
