1. OPENING OF MEETING:

The President, David McDonald opened the Meeting by thanking all the Teams present at St. Andrews for the 4th Scottish Rugby Festival and participating on what has been a cracker of a day.

2. APOLOGIES:

Apologies for absence were intimated from a large number of Clubs and individuals, and including – SGOR Treasurer Don Burns, recovering from Kee Operations and Messrs Jim Stevenson ( SGOR Hon VP ) and Alan Lawson ( SGOR Hon President Elect )….both otherwise engaged with Family Duties.

3. PRESIDENTS REPORT:

David McDonald, The President, advised that he was delighted in the number of new Golden Oldie Clubs which had been formed during the past 12 months and that some were participating here today
.
He was delighted that a team from Belgium and one from France had joined in with the Festival and hoped that they will go home with some fond memories of this Festival.

We have for some time been having discussions with the SRU for them to recognize Golden Oldies Rugby and to be affiliated – at this years SRU AGM after having support from Clubs, It is hoped that this shall come to fruition, as SGOR have certainly received support from Sir Moir Lockhead, Alan Lawson and Jim Stevenson.

SGOR have been successful in obtaining an extension of cover under the SRU Insurance for Participating Players, the age has now been increased to 75, this is good news.

There are many Festivals held all over the World now for Golden Oldies Rugby. The European Festival is in Trieste in June and the World Festival is in Japan at the end of October beginning of November. If your Club is unable to get a full Team to attend these Festivals, do not despair – individuals or groups can go, – you will always get a Team to play for because other Teams will require Players. In 2013 – the European Festival will be in Prague – it is the 25th Anniversary of – Old Boys Prague, so this will be a big event and not to be missed. If any Players wish to attend, they should contact the President…..and keep an eye on the SGOR Facebook Page.

For the 2012 Festival, SGOR were delighted to receive a Voucher for Golfing at the Fairmont Hotel Courses for four, this is valued at £400.00. The Fairmont is a main sponsor for Madras Rugby Club. We have in fact had an offer for this Voucher, via the Bill McLaren Foundation, for the Voucher to be auctioned at a Dinner later in the year, if SGOR is unable to source appropriate Bids. Details are on the Website.

As usual, SGOR always support Charities connected with Rugby and this year, we are delighted to be supporting the Bill McLaren Foundation.

Dave asked the Golden Oldies to check our web-site for future information, details of any other Golden Oldies Events….and any future changes to our playing format as the playing age groups may be altered to Teams being players of 35 – 55 year olds, and 55 and over being in a Platinum Group.

The President expressed his Thanks to Ray Mellis, SGOR Referee’s Liaison, for his organization of the Referees for today, and for the first time there being a Referees Team playing.

Finally, Dave added his sincere Thanks to Madras Rugby Club for allowing us to hold this Festival today, to their Committee and in particular to Philip…….. President of the Club. This has been a great success and of course the weather has been superb. He also thanked the various members of the Scottish Golden Oldies Committee including Secretary, Katie as without their help, a Festival could not be possible.
