Two tries from Dominic Mainon and one from Ben Botham were enough to help secure a draw against the Old Crocs and a win against Sheffield in the pool section of the Old Brods festival. With only 13 players, everybody knew they had to stay on the pitch and each one responded to the challenge. Running and kicking with the ball Archie Swain probed the opposition lines putting them under constant pressure whilst Ryan Scutt fought hard ripping the ball in the mauls. Harry Cooke, Tom Cowling and Euan Johns put in some cracking tackles. Unfortunately the pace could not be maintained for the third match against Keighley which was lost but a place in the Plate competition for coming second in the pool was a consolation.
The Plate final against Old Brods themselves was a tense affair. Winning the toss the Greens decided to play down slope in an effort to build up a lead before half time. Powerful forward work led by Charlie Cooper and Dominic Mainon resulted in a well earned try for Dominic. A penalty kick from george taylor deep into the Old Brods half was chased by Ben Botham but the ball bounced awkwardly and could not be controlled to give the badly needed second try. At half time the score remained 1 nil to the Greens.
With the slope advantage the opposition came out fighting for the second half. But although the Old Brods found themselves on the Greens line time after time determined tackling kept the hoards at bay. A clearance kick from the line gave some respite and pressure from the chasing Green centres forced an error in the Old Brods defence. The following scrum was won and george taylor coming into the back line ran home the second winning try and the U12 Plate for the Greens.
Man of the Match went to Ryan Scutt for his work in the scrums and mauls.
