Ladies XV - Team News
2011/2012 Season Summary
This time last year the future of ladies rugby at Scunthorpe was extremely doubtful. We were struggling to field 12 players and there was a big shake up in the running of the team with captain, team manager and treasurer all stepping down. Emma Gadd decided to step up to skipper however she later announced she was going to have knee surgery leaving Sinead ‘Shady’ Hill to take the reins. Arline Danby also took on the role of team manager and treasurer.
By some form of a miracle we got 11 new players this season with 9 staying with us all season. Despite the majority of the team being new and inexperienced the Ladies team ended up as third in the league. We played 10 league games winning two, drawing two and losing six. Two games were also won by walkover due to the opposing team. Our top try scorers this season was Kamila Nosal and Sarah McInnis with 5 tries each.
During this season we were very lucky to get two sponsors. The Bay Tree Indian Restaurant, Bottesford very kindly provided us with social shirts to wear after the game. On a monthly basis we visit the restaurant to sample the brilliant food! The Sauce Factory (Glorious! The A-Z of global flavours) has also sponsored our new playing shirts for next season and kit bags.
A highlight of the season for many of our players was the game against Wageningen and the fun and frolicks that went with it. We are hoping to return the favour and have a tour to there in 2014.
We held our End of Season Supper at Heslam Park on the 28th April. We enjoyed a Pie and Peas supper followed by our ‘Cabaret Extravaganza’. The awards were presented on this evening and the winners were as follows:
Back of the Year: Kamila Nosal
Forward of the Year: Mary O’Shea
Sportsman’s Award: Amanda Wu
Most Improved Player: Sarah McInnis
Coaches Award: Sinead ‘Shady’ Hill.
Thank you presents were also give to Arline Danby (Team manager & secretary); Ange Grey (Fixture secretary); Kirsty Robinson (Team physio); Andy Parratt, Tony Grey, Mark ‘Touche’ Turtle (Coaching staff) and Austin and Maisie Seels (Water boy and girl)
The evening was rounded off with our Cabaret show. All players performed an act ranging from poems to songs and even a demonstration of Chinese martial arts.
The winners were Mel Wright, Le-an Mahoney and Ange Grey with their ‘Rugby Retirement Home’ dance routine. If you’ve not seen it, find it on facebook – it is hilarious!
Thankfully the future of Scunthorpe Ladies Rugby seems bright. We have a squad of 25 women and other people showing interest more and more. We are eager to start pre-season training and welcome any new players!

Great Girls- Can we take this as your official year report?
Have you approached RAF Kirton Lindsey to see if they have anyone interested in playing for our team?
May be best speaking to Andy Parratt or Arline Danby about that one Keith.
I don't think we have in recent years, I will suggest it to the new captain, thank you.
