Due to the recent heavy rain, it was only the hard work of many volunteers that the allowed the match to take place at Heslam Park.

The Greens once more had some changes from the selected line-up with Craig Coy tied to his Army Duties, Callum Davies came off the bench and Roger Hensby taking the replacement duties.

Mansfield travelled full of confidence following their excellent home victory over Longton the previous week with former Greens number 10 Mark Woollard in their line-up. Following a brief period of defence they got on the scoreboard after only 3 minutes through a Thomas Lowery penalty. They maintained their pressure with the back row strongly taking the ball forward resulting in a try for Ben Holmes. The conversion was missed but the visitors had established an 8 points to 0 advantage after only 7 minutes of play. The heavy conditions made for mistakes by both sides with the contact area a bit of a lottery when both sides were contesting strongly.

Scunthorpe once again were unable to introduce the rhythm and pace that suited their running game. Mansfield were strong in defence and allowed no quick second phase ball for The Greens. There was an opportunity for the Nottinghamshire boys to increase their lead after 25 minutes but Lowery missed his kick. Scunthorpe became stronger towards the end of the half and even though he had missed an earlier effort, Chris Neal took his opportunity after 35 minutes to put the home boys onto the score sheet.

The second half started with both teams having brief periods of pressure with Neal able to reduce the arrears further by another penalty after 12 into the second period. It was shortly after this that, following a collision of heads, young Will Harrison was knocked out. This resulted in a twenty minute hold-up in the came whilst Harrison received treatment and was then transferred to hospital.

Play recommenced with Mansfield once more looking the stronger and exerting the most pressure. The home boys held strong and managed to get back up-field but the break through would not come even though Rewiti Viamoso and Chris Neal both made strong runs without being able to get the killer pass away.

Scunthorpe was at last able to build some momentum and with a minute of play remaining Mansfield conceded a penalty which Neal converted to put them in front for the first time in the game. The drama and irony was not yet completed as Mansfield were awarded a penalty with the last play of the match and it was none other than former Greens player Mark Woollard stepped up to strike the goal that won the game for the visitors.
