Scunthorpe u12's away at Goole
Good mornings rugby
Scunthorpe made the short trip to Goole this weekend travelling with decent numbers, we had shed loads in the forwards, we struggle for a few backs subs but we had the luxury of one today.
Decent warm up, the lads seemed a bit out of breath, so that was job one done, Jack Standerline was skipper for the day, can’t say if he won this or not but it mattered not as within minutes of kick off Will was scooping and running to the line, Scott was next using his ballast to run through the defenders, one way traffic continued with Will Horner, Lewis Talbot scoring in the corners, and Isaac Elliott scoring a quick brace one interception the other I can’t remember. Last say of the quarter went to Goole though as the speedy winger beat a couple of tackles including a missed tackle (yes a missed tackle) from Lewis. End of quarter 1 – 30-5.
2nd Quarter much like the first with a few changes in the pack and Big Josh onto the wing, Big Josh, looks a good prospect on the wing and may well become Scunthorpe’s very own Lomu, although when Lomu ran over a load of bodies he didn’t drop it over the line…. Never mind – Jack Murr was the first to pat him on the back, and was nice to see, in years to come, things like this will be remembered forever…. Jack Murr was rewarded for his sportsmanship by starting our scoring, Will Horner finished off his hat trick, Jake Kreamer and Greeny notching for the forwards, Alf O scored 2, a rip and roll and a run in, playing in the forwards meant in this quarter they totally outscored the backs.
Lewis hit a decent line, then stopped looked to give it to Big Josh but realising he’d stopped over the try line put the ball down, Greeny finished off our scoring and was suitably out of breath half time, strong running by Jack S got us on the front foot, and had the pass gone sooner he may have bagged a few tries - 70-5.
We shuffled the pack, the backs, pretty much everything, gave Dylan a run at 9, lewis to 10, Isaac t 15, oh we were mixing it right up, Jack M nearly ended up propping with Jack Standerline at one point but we decided that may be a step too far. Dylan at 9 did his best to take Lewis head off with a pass faster than a speeding bullet, but as Colin says if it doesn’t sting when you catch it you’re not doing it right.
Alf scored after another ripped ball, Big josh scored, then little Josh scored his first ever try – well done to him, Alf O scored again, then Scott who was meant to get the pass from the free pass didn’t as he took his eye off the ball, but good things come to those who wait and it eventually made its way to him and he swatted players away at one point changing direction so he could run into someone else – who said Rugby is an evasion game?!?!. End of third quarter 95-5.
We then gave them Alf O and Isaac to play in their centres Alf O scoring three tries against us which don’t count towards his seasons tally in fact we’re considering taking 6 off him. Wilko finished off our scoring from a pick and go and brought up a nice round number of 100.
Lots of positives, some quality attack play, and strong if not quite as aggressive defence as we’d of liked but a nice morning out…
