Final Game of season

Not just the final game of the season, but final game of Mini level rugby!! Well on English soil at least....
Old Brods we have played season on season for many a year since the days of tag, they have improved year on year and grown in numbers to form a pretty decent squad of players.
Scunny were in unfamiliar surroundings of the local college to play rugby, the pitch was hard, but the grass had been cut...
We warmed up well, and were fortunate to Cricket being called off that we ended up with some subs backs. Playing with 13, we stuck an 8 in the pack but still no pushing but a good look at how it'll be next year.
From kick off the boys put Brods under a bit of pressure the line speed we have sorely asked for was back in parts, clearing rucks well, Chris Green was unlucky not to carry over and Charley Wilkinson was held up over the line.
Jake Kreamer, who was outstanding today, flew into rucks, as he has before- not one team we have come up against has a player who clears out as well as he does. Scott Kelly was also influential in the ruck, and for one who is still learning the game has had a great half a season.
In fact all forwards put a shift in today, its a good job we have a 'forward' orientated side as we could make subs, a lot like Scott have only been playing half a season but all continually improve, Jake Sephton had quite possibly his finest game for Scunny before going to watch some other ball sport call fusebal?, Josh Cappell Fenwick came on and played a large amount of game time; Dylan Clare also did a bit through the pack. Alf Taylor was good in defence in holding the ball up and with his knowledge is good for the newer members to learn off.
Alf O playing an unaccustomed role got the young greens off to a flyer as he used the forwards as a foil and threw a good dummy to go through. Old Brods hit back and had a decent kicking game, coupled with a couple of tricky runners, attempting use the ball the also went over to level the scores...
Dante gave us some good go forward in his unaccustomed role in the centres, but a tackle that went slightly wrong got his head in the wrong place and his day was ended, fingers crossed he makes a full recovery soon.
During the second part Old Brods seized the initiative and scored 2 more one on the wing one through the middle. 5-15 at half time.
The second half continued much as the first defences on top, of each other and not many clear cut scoring opportunities, Alf O got our second just outpacing the defence and we were back in it 10-15. The third we were starting to slow though and this gave Will Horner little time at 9 to use the ball, The backs were a little flat but a couple of good kicks from Jack Murr and a couple of dummies which were half bought by the Old Brods got us some go forward, This along with Sam Barker (again another half a season player) coming into 9 position and bossing the forwards about. Jack Standerline on the wing didn't see much ball but the defence stopped us using it but he can be pleased with not letting them score up his wing. Harry Soulby had his best fifteen minutes of the game hitting and clearing out rucks. Dylan came out of the pack and made 2-3 good runs up the wing, Brods scored one more from a scrum making it 10-20 but the final quarter both teams seemed out on their feet after a huge effort by both teams and there was no more score.

Player of match today = Jake Kreamer, just in front of his other forward colleagues Wilko, Greeny, and Alf T...

We look forward to next season - A full pitch, longer rugby time = fitness, Independent refs (thank the lord), pushing in the scrums, 1 more into the pack, game plans, and a whole lot more fun on the way...

Just the small matter of a TOUR to get through - they should all make it back..............probably
