First Loss for U16’s
A long drive to Ashbourne in Derbyshire for the start of the Nld shield. A very muddy pitch up hill pitch meant it was going to be a forward game. Sadly Ashbourne forwards were more organised and had a better game plan than the greens. I always worry when our lads go very quite as communication has never been our strong point. Ashbourne had us pinned in our own half for 90% of the first half using the forwards to drive down the hill. We helped them with silly mistakes when we were put under pressure. They did to us what we normally do to other teams. The game was not over though even with a 12-0 score line at half time. A mistake at the line out gave Ashbourne the chance to make it 19-0 early in the second half. Then the ill discipline crept in to many penalties given away (a lack of understanding of the rules) from some players. This then gave the ref chance to give 2 yellow cards to Lee and Noor for separate instances both very dubious to say the least. As much as we can point a finger at the ref ( a Derbyshire ref for a Derbyshire team game?) it was a poor performance, we allowed Ashbourne to panic us and lost the game because we didn’t play with our heads.
Heads up let’s learn from this and move on.
