A bare 15 players turned up at Lincoln, so with no subs it was going to be a hard game. Especially as Lincoln have a large squad to keep the team fresh through out the game. After 10 minutes the green got a drive over try grounded by Reece and converted by josh 0 - 7. Sean then snook in another try 5 minutes later again converted by josh 0 - 14 to the greens. After some loose carrying near Lincoln’s line the greens where under pressure of their own making. Lincoln capitalized to make it 5 - 14. Lincoln again scored the next try after a strong run from the winger making it 12 - 14 at half time. Scunthorpe needed to step up the effort at the break down as some of the forwards were lacking in the effort department today. Lincoln got the next try after some loose play by the greens 19 - 14 .after a few missed tackles Lincoln then scored another converted try 26 - 14 . Lincoln now where on a role and grabbed another try making it 31 - 14. The only positive point of the day was that the lads didn’t give up and at this point in the game exhausted they started digging in and playing some rugby. Josh grabbed a couple of ties back one a neat chip and chase and the second more of a team effort. The final score 31 - 28 to Lincoln.
Was it A winnable game yes it was if every player had given it their all. If we had some subs with fresh legs to rest players who were struggling, but games are not won on if’s. one thing for sure we won’t win the NLD shield this year with performances like that.
Well done Lincoln for a good team performance, they have improved every time we play them.
