Scunthorpe U16's bring the shield home
Scunthorpe end on a high
The season could not have finished on a better note for the U16's as they fought hard to win the NLD shield. The bus trip to Derby was a great get together for both parents and players. Big thank you to Rachel for organising us all. The first thing we noticed was in the program our list of 16 players looked very short compared to Ashbournes 25. This meant with one sub everyone was going to have to put a shift in.
Ashbourne started well with 2 soft penalties giving them a 6 - 0 lead. Scunthorpe rallied round and Carter put us back in contention. Followed closely by Jack Brunt
and another Carter try. Ashbourne came back in the second half with 2 converted tries one an excellent driving maul.
The greens steadied the game with a try from Curtis Baker
which was converted by Josh. The greens were back at it again with Josh Rudkins and his dancing feet. Then after being camped on the Ashbourne try line after some clever kicking Jamie Major
hustled his way over the line to finish off a great victory for the greens. I know I can say with confidence all the parents were really proud of our lads today everyone of them dug deep and brought home the shield for Scunthorpe rugby club.
Thank you to Malcolm Yates for your kind words at the end I hope we did you proud. Thank you to Daz, Scott and Mark for your excellent coaching over the years, and thank you Ashbourne for giving us the best game of the season.
