U14s win NLD 7s shield
Greens, narrowly beaten on points diff in pool by Corsairs, but beat Paviors to win the shield!
In the Greens' first ever sevens tournament they did themselves proud with a gutsy showing.
They narrowly went down 12-10 to Corsairs in their first group game as they were getting the hang of the sevens game. Thereafter they won their remaining group games, collecting 4 bonus points to finish level on 16 points with Corsairs in the group.
Both teams had scored 24 tries, Scunthorpe actually conceding only 4 against Corsairs 7, but the Nottingham team had converted more so their points difference was +17 against the Greens' +16, so close.
Indeed Corsairs went on to play Derby in the Cup final, level after full time and lost to a 'golden try' in extra time.
Scunthorpe played Paviors in the shield final, going down to an early score despite defending valiantly for several phases. However the Greens got going and started to dominate with superior distribution and some very quick running despite it being the 6th game of the day. It was a full team effort of all 11 lads, with the rolling subs coming on and playing with high intensity. So despite tired limbs and a few knocks the Greens had a successful first 7s experience, well done lads, a credit to Scunthorpe!
