Winning run ends
Winning run ends
Scunthorpes winning run ended today after a hard fought battle against a strong Beverly side. We knew we where in for a hard game today however the lads were up for it, and started the game well. We held the opposition for 20 minutes before Beverly finally broke through the lines to score a good individual try. Beverly have a big forward pack and two fast backs so you know what to expect every time you play them. knowing is one thing and stopping it happening is another thing. Beverly ran in 2 more tries to make it 17-0 at half time. To be fare compared with the 56-12 thrashing we got earlier in the year we played well. You have got to get the ball to score though and we didn't see enough of it in the first half.
The second half I felt we put our strongest team on the field and we saw a much more even game. We just needed to be more clinical in our finishing and we could have gained some ground. Beverly finally got handed a penalty try in the last 6 minutes and that was it game over 24-0 to Beverly.
What did we learn from today:
When their coach referees the game and start by saying don't argue with the referee you generally know what's coming and he did not disappoint us. Even though your under pressure you still need to form pod's, otherwise the ball goes to the same player everytime and you have not opened any gaps for the backs to run into. If your not needed in the ruck form a pod.
To finish I think all the parents were proud of your display today you didn't let us down and fought hard against a good side. Special mention has to go to Lee Parrot who had one of his best games this year. Also Olly and Sean who worked really hard putting in the tackles to keep the game close. Nice to see Lewis Gilmore
back on the Pitch keep away from football it's a rough sport and you get injured.
