Old Brods u13 v Scunthorpe u 13
Longest trip for our last trip
Penultimate week - yes we use big words round here....
We travelled with a tonne of players including Greeny and Wilko, however both were injured last week and failed last minute fitness test -which, consisted of slapping each others legs and a game of touch. Had we of had a cryo chamber i reckon they could have been fit - wonder if the committee will authorise a spend of about £100k?
After being on the wrong end of a 45-5 scoreline at the start of the season, we were up for a tough fixture, but, Scunthorpe have made giant astronaut sized steps in their improvement our pack more mobile, stronger, fitter and faster than before, working on our physicality, the season has come to a premature end.
We kicked off to Old Brods and all of the above positive flew out the window as we left Brods with a 4 v 2 on 3 occasions and they converted one of these chances, running repairs made and we were dragged back into it with Alfie O, Dante was outstanding making 68 tackles in the first 5 minutes and for a 9 cleared 103 rucks (probably), Brods scored again on the far wing, and this seemed to jolt us into life as we were knocking in the brods door for a bit, but Scott picked and drove over from what will be described as 20 meters out when he's older, anyone whose ever told this story will know he means inches.
Oskar then grabbed a try followed by his second - a full length of the field job, running through the defenders handing off, stopping for a bit, waiting for people to catch up then setting off again and celebrating with a fist pump...
Half time we were 20-10 up but we knew the ever so slight incline, which levelled out before another slight incline may prove a leveller.
A close battle between two keen defences, including Jake S having the stuffing kicked out of him by pretty much all the brods pack, then Alf O upsetting people and we're usually such nice lads. Dan snatched an interception and sprinted away as the line seemingly got further away, he made it as everyone became Tom Daley fans shouting dive dan dive - he didn't need to.
Brods came back at us though Lewis stopped a couple of certain tries and with his winger Jack S and Will were in no mood to be scored past and it was some trickery which got them back into with 3 unanswered tries.
In a seesaw match Jack W went on a barnstormer of a run carrying about 6 players he was scragged but a commando roll saw him over the line, Scott grabbed his second from a similar distance helped by his forward pals.
Having played a 2 hour game already the lads were happy when the ref said 5 mins left, Brods scored, last play called and the boys went for bust saying we can score another rather than run it out, we were turned over and Brods scored - no problems with this and the creativity is something we want to improve on.
The lads walked off bumped and bruised (Jake S face, legs, arms and munchkin with a bust nose) but big proud chests puffed out.
Another fabulous performance everyone tried there utmost for the team even during warm up.
One more weekend - then rest
