Sheffield & Wortley Match Report
Sheffield & Wortley match report
The Scunthorpe Under 10’s couldn’t be defeated this weekend with two games against Sheffield and a third against Wortley.
Sheffield opened the scoring but we were quick to respond with Wilkinson getting the ball down only for it to be disallowed for being inches off the scoreline. Hart managed a try with good passing through Sitek, Barley and Wilkinson.
Stow also managed another score after half time which was quickly followed by another from Sheffield where we managed 3 knock on’s in succession. A good run from Clarke put us near the scoreline but Sheffield managed to pinch the ball with their excellent rucking. A great tackle from Conroy forced their player to drop the ball with Conroy releasing the tackle and diving onto the ball to score the try. A good game and a good 3-2 win.
The second match against Sheffield A started off badly with them going two up despite an interception by Thornton. Clarke managed to get in the ruck to steal the ball passing wide between Hatfield and Proctor finding Conroy who dived over the line.
Sheffield followed up with another due to a series of missed tackles but we fought back making our way up the pitch where it was a battle for the ball on the scoreline. A flurry of tackles on the line lead the Sheffield player to drop the ball and Conroy dived on top to get the try.
The last game against Wortley started well with Thornton holding up the maul passing out to find Wilkinson and Stow. Wilkinson forced their player into touch gaining the ball for Scunthorpe with some great passing between Thornton Conroy back to Wilkinson who snuck through their defence to cross the line.
Conroy also managed another score as well as Thornton who put on a good display with Hatfield holding up their maul.
After half time, a pass from Conroy managed to hit Clarke who was getting up from a tackle rebound off to find Proctor who zig zigged through to score. Passing between Frary, Proctor and Clarke got the ball wide on the wing to Hatfield but Wortley put up a good defence stopping our stride. Hatfield and Quibell held up the maul near the centre line but a Wortley player found a way through to score.
Conroy passed through to Quibell via Clarke who danced through the opposition to get a score of his own however Wortley were still not letting up getting another on their sheet.
With last play being called, some quick passing between Conroy to Frary finding Clarke on the wing who ran down the pitch getting our final try of the day ending with a sound 7-2 win.
