Doncaster match report
A home game against Doncaster was in store for the Under 10 mini juniors this weekend where two teams were ready to do battle.
The Greens got off to a great start applying pressure from the first whistle preventing Doncaster getting beyond the half way line. A near score was stopped by pushing us into touch but we were not to be outdone with a great passing between Conroy Barley and Carter saw Conroy over the line.
We dominated the first 15 minutes with tackle after tackle being put in to cause Doncaster errors winning the ball. A maul was held up by Thornton, Stow and Quibell getting the ball to Conroy who was forced into touch near the score line.
Jones Y grabbed a loose ball with a pass out to Thornton via Sitek who forced his way over the line which was quickly followed by some serious passing between players with the ball being like a hot potato between both teams, Eventually we resettled down Stow ripping the ball from a maul to score however there was still fight in the opposition with Doncaster gaining a try by slipping through a gap in our defense.
Jones Y grabbed the ball and took it down the blindside of the scrum to score resulting in a well deserved 4-1 win.
The second match against Doncaster B team went a little smoother but was still a strong opposition. Scunthorpe opened the scoring with our Scunthorpe newcomer Metheringham gaining his first try quickly followed up by a second from Grundy with a cracking interception.
Qiubell and Stow followed up with some extra scores and a fantastic display of tackling won us the ball with Conroy and Jones Y gaining us two more before half time.
Thornton, Stow and Conroy managed to hold up a maul winning the ball for Jones Y to score however a forward pass error by Scunthorpe gained Doncaster the chance they needed to grab a score on their sheet.
A Doncaster try was disallowed as the ref had already blown them for a forward pass much to the dismay of the Doncaster supporters however they would have been even more disheartened after a good run down the wing after ripping the ball from the opposition saw Stow gain another followed by another from Quibell.
A great win of 9-1 for the Greens.
The Blacks played equally as well winning both their games too however due the supporters preferring to watch the match with their attention undivided, a report on their games was not provided.
Overall top marks for effort and tackling however it was highlighted that Doncaster did win more of the ball from rucks so more work is needed in this area.
