Seaford won the toss and elected to bowl on a very damp wicket that looked as if it was going to be hard work to bat on. This proved the case as Seaford started well picking up 3 early wickets to reduce Crowhurst Park to 22-3 after 11 overs. Matt Broad, John P Smith and Mark Sapwell picking up one a piece. Park then rallied with a small partnership between Ed Smissen and Dale Bryant which took the score onto 59 when Aaron Yeomans clean bowled Smissen for 20 with a good delivery. Bradley Payne came to the crease and in tandem with Bryant started to shift the momentum of the game as the two batted positively putting on 106 for the fifth wicket. Bryant hit a number of sixes on his way to 89 but fell short of his ton going for another, as he was caught in the deep by Ollie Smith off of the bowling of Jon Pitts. At this point Payne started to attack taking on the mantle as the aggressor and to their credit the rest of the Park batting line-up came out and played their shots looking to push the score on. However this also gave Seaford the chance to pick up regular wickets as they did. Payne was eventually removed for a well made 46 and Crowhurst Park’s innings finished on 210-9 after 53 overs. The pick of Seaford’s bowlers were Mark Sapwell 3-45 and Jon Pitts 3-24.

Crowhurst Park would have been the happier of the two teams at the break but Seaford knew that the score was achievable with the short boundaries. However despite an attacking start Seaford lost early wickets much like Crowhurst, as Paul Brookes picked up two and Smissen claimed three wickets to leave Seaford reeling at 57-5 with most of their top order back in the pavilion. However Kevin Ramsay survived the early storm and formed a partnership with young Jacob Smith, the pair put on 37 for the next wicket to just steady the ship. But the partnership was broken by a good team catch as gully parried the ball up to first slip to remove Smith for 11 off of the bowling of Paul Lindfield. The next batsmen Tim Goddard did much the same as Smith as he supported Ramsay who was playing fluently on a difficult pitch. Goddard was removed for 20 off of the bowling of Nick Peters to leave Seaford on 122-7 and in a difficult position. Aaron Yeomans came to the crease and batted solidly giving Ramsay as much of the strike as he could to give Seaford even the slightest chance of winning the game. Ramsay brought up his fifty during the the fifty partnership between the pair. Ramsay played a vital innings for Seaford which meant that they did not lose the game, he finished unbeaten on 83 with Yeomans 8* at the other end. Crowhurst Park bowled and fielded well having the better of the game, Paul Brookes 2-49 and Ed Smissen 3-36 proved the best performers with the ball.

A draw in the circumstances should hopefully prove to be a good result for Seaford as they picked up 11 points in the process. But they will have to improve in all aspects if they are to get a result at home against Lewes Priory next week who will be looking for revenge for the game earlier in the season.
