History
Sedgefield Rugby Football Club was reformed in 2007 after over 10 year’s absence in the village. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength after two successful seasons in the Teesside Social League and reaching the semi-finals of the Durham Plate Competition both years.
Due to our success both on and off the pitch our senior team (for players aged 17 and above) have now joined the South Durham Division Three League where we play competitive league fixtures every Saturday through September to April.
Sedgefield are in the fortunate position of having former Durham University coach Ted Wood as head coach. Ted Wood spent over 35 years with Durham University, during which time, Ted nurtured players including Will Carling, Will Greenwood and Phil de Glancille.
Always on the look out for new players, we encourage new players to join us at training on Wednesday evening from 7.30pm.
Currently, the team is based at the grounds of Sedgefield Community College for both training and our home matches. There are exciting new plans however, for our own pitch within the Sedgefield community.
The rugby club has a good relationship with Sedgefield Cricket Club, where we now be using their club house facilities for the forthcoming season.
