LEST WE FORGET

It took a lot of midnight oil and last minute discussions deep into Friday night but Dave Smith and Geoff Roberts finally managed to beat down the RFU.

Yep, imagine if it were true, a stance on Tigers wearing poppies on their shirt today. Silly isn’t it and also highly disrespectful to those who gave and to still give everything for the greater good

The fact that any sport inflamed by a sad sorry press chasing column inches could get locked in a total and anal argument about whether to wear a poppy or not is scandalous.

However the rights or wrongs of it may play out or the precedents its sets, and so on, it is all wasted rhetoric in an effort for what.

Selling newspapers by creating a non-story by diluting and denigrating a real story, by real people.

There’s a plaque at Sedge and most probably at most clubs throughout the country, crossing all sports that remembers those who stood and fronted up when it mattered most, to be counted on when things looked bleak.

There may not be VCs or GMs or even dispatches from HQ attached to those plaques up, down and around the country and throughout the Kingdom. Just names, dusty on the plaque who were just ordinary guys and girls who were extraordinary in their sacrifice.

So during that moment in the minute silence tomorrow before your game, think and be proud about all those young men and women who gave their all.

If you can find and look at our remembrance plaque and remember the names, and remember most of all they too were once kids full of life raring to play in the Claret and Gold.

By doing this, poppy or not, you have done something very, very worthwhile

Remember
