THE LEADER OF THE PACK (ISSUE 14)

Well you cannot shut him up anyway so please welcome the weekly round-up of all Second XV news from Captain Chris Leader.

Back to the league this week and an impressive performance against Chester?

Yeh it was a good team performance and a very impressive first half where we used the slope to our advantage and played some excellent rugby.

The pace of the rugby in the first half was very quick and Chester struggled to cope with this as we continually switched the side of the attack and found gaps in the Chester defence to run in 7 unanswered tries.

I believe the second half of the match was a different tale?

Well we didn't play particularly well in the second period but playing up that slop is very difficult on a dry day, throw in the boggy conditions and it was like running in clay! Chester to be fair, did come out fighting in the second half and managed to score four tries of their own compared to our two in the second half.

Where did these two tries come from?

You would have to ask Tom 'Dancing on Ice' Leader ST.

A ball was chipped over the top by Chester leaving Tom with bags of time to pick the ball up and do whatever he wants to do with it! But ridiculously he managed to slip and fall, almost like a sniper had shot him and Chester ran the ball under the posts!

The drama didn't end there for the lad who has more football boots than women have shoes!

Chester broke through and their prop slowly stepped round Tom to go under the posts. The boots he was wearing again were again blamed for this mistake.

New boots are in order I think. Maybe ones with studs!

And the scoring continues?

Yes ST another try but again another great effort by the forwards with a driving maul from 10metres out. Well done boys.

Results seem to have gone your way this week in the league?

Well Preston got thumped by Caldy with a little help from Dom 'Tevez' Kohler who apparently scored the first try in his debut for Caldy 2nd XV.

Stockport were beaten as well which just leaves ourselves and Fylde with only one defeat so far.

This week you entertain Fylde who you beat comfortably last time. How do you think it will go?

Well I am not sure what to make of the Fylde team as they have only played two games so far in the Conference Division.

Last time out against them we played some of the best rugby we have played all season so more of the same will be needed again as I am sure our noisy neighbours will be looking for a better performance against us.

Rumour has it that Matt Smith maybe in line for a return?

He does arrive back on Thursday afternoon and I am sure he will be sniffing around for a game but I have been told that he is selected for Carnforth away.

Urmston Watch? How was he?

To quote Rick: 'Fantastic, how the boy is not playing Premiership is past me. Every pass went to hand, every kick was strategically placed and every tackle went down. That's my boy!'

Paul played very well.

Finally how is our very own FC Tigers 5aside going?

What a week for the Tigers team.

Firstly there was a late dive into the transfer market to snap up free agents Stephen 'Samurai' Nutt and Sam 'Ex Pro' (so good he only has a first name).

Both players signed lengthy contracts to be part of the famous Tiger team.

Nutty has promised that if he is selected we will soon have some Samurai stash! (Wow that would be quicker than the stash the boys have been waiting for since the beginning of the season!). Dave Peet has already said he will sponsor Steve Nutts shirt!!!!

Other news is that the big JC (The White Toure) finally put pen to paper to extend his spell with the Tigers after a lot of negotiating we managed to seal the deal with a protein shake and a set of dumbbells!

The game should have been shown on Sky Sport it was that good! North of Bury were the victims of our sheer brilliance.

Speed, movement, pace, Juan 'Toure' Crous pulling the strings in midfield, Simon 'Carrick' Hetherington box to box, Richard 'the cat' Wainwright unbeatable in net, Stephen 'Jason Park' Nutt weaving his way through players with Crousy showing his very little amount football knowledge:

Crousy "Nutty you are playing like Jason Park"

Nutty: "Who?"

Crousy: "You know that Man United Player!"

All the other players are in stitches on the floor:

Nutty "He's called Ji-Sung Park and he is from South Korea!"

Of course it would be wrong of me to mention a certain Chris "Rooney" Leader finishing top goal scorer! We also kept a clean sheet in the second half with some super saves.

A clean sheet in 25 minutes of 5aside is unheard of! oh and I need to mention this that even the two left footed JC managed to score two goals! (had the game finished)

There was talk after the game that some of the players have been scouted (tapped up) for top local teams (Whitefield under nines, and Prestwich scouts thirds) but of course staying and player for the famous Tigers AFC.

The Gaffer on the other hand has a huge selection headache for next week with himself put under the spotlight.

Being the only player to fail to bag a goal and conceding two while in net maybe he might be replaced by the returning water boy Matt "Maori Lover" Smith.

Maybe the pressure of being manager and player has got to him.

Wouldn't like to be in his shoes! Put that game behind you gaffer!
