WITH GREATEST SYMPATHY
I have the very sad news that long time Sedgley Park member Ian Keers passed away last Friday afternoon, 25th of May 2012.
Ian was a very popular member of the club over a long period of time and was a regular supporter of the first XV when he had the chance.
An all-round sportsman of some considerable talent in his youth, this popular Ulsterman, when the time came to hang up his boots, bat and clubs, soon found kindred spirits at Park Lane as he made this his sporting home.
In later years, two of his sons, Peter and Owen, represented the club and watching them play in the claret and gold over the years was a great source of pride to him. More recently, his grandson Todd, who still plays for Sedge, also made him proud and has kept the strong family ties with the club
In recent times we have seen a lot less of Ian and his wife Hazel at Park Lane through a mixture of retirement to the Fylde coast and lately due to his bad health and an on-going battle with cancer.
Sadly, Ian died peacefully at 16.00 hours, on the 25th of May at Blackpool Royal Victoria Hospital surrounded by his family. Ian was aged 74.
The Keers family would like to thank all concerned at the hospital for the excellent nursing care in Ian’s final few days.
On behalf of the club we offer Ian’s family and friends our condolences in such sad days.
Ian Keers rest in peace
