Sedgley took on De La Salle 2nd XV for the second time in 2012. The last meeting we took the spoils, but would we be able to repeat this in the second round of the cup.
We had a strong side with maybe only a week in, week out 8 missing but Mr versatile Matt Allcock covered and had a great game.
The game kicked off but the 3s were found napping and Del a Salle scored early on. After this Sedge took control and had the better of the play dominating the scrum and a new weapon in the driving maul.
From a lineout just inside the 22 we took good ball and drove for the line.
Well controlled by the forwards ended in Chris Hobbs touching down. The wind was gruesome forcing the conversion wide.
The 3s kept pressure on and kept the visitors in their own half. Attacking in the opposition 22 Mark O’Hern put in a cross kick which was gathered by Adam
Arif and laid off to Adam Lewis
who crossed the line for Sedgley’s second try, the conversion was missed.
Sedgley 10 – 7 up at half time.
The second half started in the same vein with us dominating possession. As time went on our dominance slipped and De La Salle evened the game up with a penalty.
This was disappointing as the game should have been sealed for us earlier.
Through the second half De La Salle seemed to be able to improve their side with substitutions.
The next score looked destined to decide the game and unfortunately at the death it was scored by De La Salle.
The game ended 15 – 10 against the mighty 3s.
A bitter sweet result as we lost, but as this was a cup game we still keep our current 6 out of 7 league record
Today we entertain Kirby Lonsdale in an eagerly anticipated game between 6th & 7th place.
