NO EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR THE TIGERS
SSE NATIONAL LEAGUE ONE: Sedgley Park 8 (0) Macclesfield 22 (4): The match report by Chris Paine.
A good first half of exciting rugby soon materialised into a well-executed game plan by Macclesfield that throttled the life out of Sedgley Park.
Macclesfield came to Park Lane in the better form. They have their detractors as in the way they play but it has to be said they play it very well and in respect of the conditions today it was the winning formula.
The first half was all about Tigers playing the rugby whilst Macc built progressively in the Tigers 22 and in-discipline, a trait that would go on to play a large part in Tigers downfall gifted nine points to the accurate boot of Ross Winney with a brace coming in the 3rd and 11th minute.
Tigers had a penalty of their own following great play in the Macclesfield 22 which Greg Smith kicked in the 16th minute but the moment of the half was Sedgley opening try when a great run by Henno Venter smashed a big hole for CHRIS PARROTT to breakthrough.
He made a mazy run with his head down towards the posts and as the cover defence came across he off-loaded to the supporting Fergus Owens who in turn gave it JAMIE HARRISON but the ball came free and in the scramble on the floor JAMIE HARRISON got his hand to it giving Tigers the lead on 20 minutes.
Tigers tried to keep the pressure on but more ill-discipline in the home side 22 gave Ross Winney his third penalty kick and a single point advantage on 28 minutes, a position Macc would hold onto until half time.

The second half scourge hit Sedgley once more when a very soft try was conceded following a break from man of the match Macclesfield’s number 8 Francis Barker who battered tacklers out of the way and to simply off load to inside centre Tom Davenport to score Maccs only try on 42 minutes.
Ross Winney kicked the conversion.
From here on in it was all Macclesfield as they played the conditions and the referee very well indeed as they maintained territory and possession in a highly competent display of ten man rugby.
The over officious handling of the game turned the second forty into a non-event as Tigers gave penalties away to either lose more points or lose the all-important territory.
The real talking point was the LOUIS McGOWAN none try or even penalty try when it was clear even if LOUIS McGOWAN had not grounded the ball he was deliberately impeded which was seen by the touch judge but waved away by the referee.
Six more points from the trusty boot of Ross Winney in 57th and 77th minutes made sure the derby bragging rights headed back over the border and back to Cheshire.
Some good performances from CHRIS PARROTT, LOUIS McGOWAN and a very good effort from CHRIS WILKINSON at fullback were the plus points for the Tigers.
It would be wrong to exclude the efforts from the Macc back five who were led brilliantly by my man of the match Francis Barker.
No games for a couple of weeks for the Christmas break so may I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
