THE LEADER OF THE PACK (ISSUE 12)
So was it a great victory at the weekend over Preston?
7-3 Amazing! Great game and every player played their hearts out and put their bodies on the line.
Considering that Preston had 90% of possession we were able to bring their big runners down and force them into making mistakes. Reading through the Preston match report they were very disappointed not to win the game and pointed to the fact that we were very lucky to have won! (Typical blinkered Preston!)
So you don't agree with the Preston match report?
I don’t to be honest ST. We had opportunities to score more points but failed to convert from the good positions we had got ourselves into.
Having a make shift backline with players needing to play out of position due to injuries and unavailability we failed to play with our patterns on a regular basis. But what we lacked in attack we certainly made up for in defence. Preston never looked like scoring as all the boys threw everything into tackles and made sure the defence was very organised.
I believe that there was a sustained pressure in your 22 for the last 20 minutes?
Yeh to be fair to Preston they never gave up searching for that try to take the lead and bombarded our try line with wave after wave of big runners, line outs and scrums. For 10 minutes of this period we even defended with 14 men due to Tom 'Sin Bin" Whitton being carded for darting over the ruck.
In the Preston report they even suggest you should have been carded?
Well as I said before ST I don't agree with this report! And as I pointed out to young Whitton at training mine is a case of 'should have' not 'did'. An interesting fact with Tom "Sin Bin" Whitton is that he has now accumulated 6 sin binings this season. That’s 60 minutes of rugby missed to be added to his Sunday Rugby missed to refereeing football matches!
I have to at this point praise the referee for his excellent refereeing of the game and for ignoring the crowds plea to have me sin binned for apparently handling the ball in a ruck???
That win puts you firmly back in the title race?
Very much so. With Preston still to come to us and Stockport yet to play us in the Conference A, things are certainly looking a lot more positive after the disappointing slip at Caldy.
I was very proud of the boys response from the Caldy game considering that we had a 3 week break and were missing some influential players for the fixture. The boys were ask to step up and they delivered. Well Done lads!
I believe you have a new player watch for this year?
Yes ST. Since Mr Jack Warrington failed to keep up with payments I have been approached by a desperate Mr Urmston. That’s Rick Urmston, to put in some good words for his beloved son Paul.
This week Paul put the disappointment of the derby match behind him after sulking all Sunday and Monday.(that’s great to hear Chris).
His mum washed his extra small boys Man City shirt and he arrived for training looking to get a sneak at a 1st XV slot. But due to Steve "Haz" Hazelby and Paul "Mozzer" Morris desperate for Paul to be with the 2 XV, Dave ‘Peety’ Peet and Rich Senior allowed Paul the honour of playing for the Mighty 2's.
Paul’s performance was nothing but outstanding (a quote from his Dad) his passing was always slick and straight at the target. Paul made some crunching tackles and didn't seem fazed by all the players being much bigger than him. A 1st XV call up must be coming his way now that he has a lovely brand spanking new tooth!
Are the rumours true that Dom Kohler has left?
Well ST after getting home from work after long hard days teaching.(Ha Ha that has to be a lie) I turned on Sky Sports News and the Yellow button confirmed my fears.
Dom 'Tevez' Kohler had indeed handed in a transfer request to go on loan to Caldy. This has yet to be confirmed but ‘the want away’ star has been unattainable!
Anyway bigger news is the return of the better Kohler brothers, Chris Kohler. Chris will be stepping into his brother shoes this weekend for the Mighty Twos.
Any news from Matt Smith?
There is. He will be arriving home on the 2nd February and I have informed the 4th team of his availability for Saturday 5th. He only has a few weeks remaining until he returns home a changed man. He is looking forward to seeing all his friends for a good old drink on the 5th after he arrived back from Carnforth.
He has expressed his concern that Luke 'Felbabysitter' Woolley has been seen driving around in a new car with a booster seat!
Any news on the Tigers 5aside?
Not a good time to talk about that at the moment ST. Fans are on back and the boss is under a lot of pressure after three straight defeats over the Christmas period, things are not good in the Tigers camp.
We have been boosted this week with the return to action of Richard 'Giggs' Wainwright after a suspected centre snooze injury.
Hopefully the boss will keep his job after rumours have started that Matt Smith is flexing his muscles as Chairman of the Tigers 5aside!
PS: The best of luck to Dom Kohler on his loan spell at Caldy.
