This week there was a break from the league and you took on Stockport 3rds in the cup. How did it go?
To start off with we were expecting a strong Stockport team to come down and possibly push us all the way but this was not the case and in fact we got a 12 man Stockport 3rd team.
This was disappointing as we really wanted to keep the momentum going from last week’s impressive performance away at Preston. To keep the fixture at a respectable level we loaned the opposition 2 players and played 15 on 14.
To be fair to Stockport they never gave up it what must have been a difficult 80 minutes for their players.
So a win at 97-7 was there any positives to take out of the game?
Yeh the lads played well in what is always a difficult type of game to stay focused. We have set our targets for the rest of the season and know that in these games as much as any we need to keep focused and play good rugby. We did this and played good patterns that allowed for the score to be as good as it was.
This game was always about going out and keeping the momentum going for next week’s trip to Chester.
And you progress to the next round?
Next round is the quarter finals and we have been drawn against Burnage 2nd team away. The boys are looking forward to putting last year’s disappointing defeat in the semi-final up at Birkenhead Park behind them and push on to the final.
There's nothing like a good cup run and I am sure the City fans will agree with us!
So with a score like that you must have been able to get on the score sheet?
Well ST I didn't managed to get just one,
So you doubled up then?
No ST my scoring days from my youth were re-lived with a hat trick!
The 1st coming from get vision from myself to send scrum half Paddy Paine round the blind side and follow round to receive the pop pass to dive over the line. (Although PP tells it very differently)
The 2nd try came from run about 50 metres out to side step the full back and use Bingo (LOL) like pace to go over the try line!
And the 3rd was a great forward’s try to finish off the game with a driving maul from 10 metres out!
I dedicated that one to Mike Smith who was the only player not to score and knock on 3 times!
So where Stockport’s 7 did points come from?
ST it's still a dodgy subject to talk about.
They had this massive player with great feet, lightening pace, a strong hand off and bigger pecks then our very own JC.
A quick tap penalty had been taken and the player beat five or six tackles before using his superman like strength to break through my tackle and score (so you ducked the last tackle then). I can honestly say it was like hitting a wall!
I will be having a chat with Matt 'Speed Bump' Smith with how he copes with it.
How was Paul Urmston this week?
Paul's claims for a 1st team spot must have increased after being at the centre of everything in this hugely impressive score-line. Simon Parrott and Will Runciman must be looking over their shoulders as it only took our Paul 30 seconds to score from the half way line and show the big crowd watching his potential!
Have Sedgley FC, Tigers 5aside managed to end their barren run of results?
The answer to that question is no ST.
Another disappointing 19-4 loss I am afraid, but there is good news we did give a trial to a new but familiar face this week.
After weeks of, is he, will he, the self-proclaimed 'White Toure' Juan Crous played his first game for Tigers. It would be a debut to forget. As the gaffer put it
'JC didn't have the best of games. The pressure of stepping up to the Monday night football league got to him. He was not properly prepared and we will have to work on that over the next few weeks. He did complain about his footwear and that was the reason for the number of missed shots. I expected more from the big German. To cap it all off, an own goal whilst having a stint as goalkeeper summed up the night for him!'
Will JC be with us next week?
That will be the gaffer’s decision when we play bottom of the league (for the sake of good taste I have only repeated what the team name sounds like) NOTTINGHAM FOREST FC .
