Another good weekend for the U7's

A weekend full of rugby for the U7’s

With a visit to Sedgley Park from a Newport touring side on Saturday and an away game at Liverpool St Helens on Sunday, this weekend was always going to be an action packed and demanding one. The lads were well up for the challenge though and on Saturday we fielded a team of seven players against sixteen from Newport. This too added to the demands on the team especially as the Newport team wanted a couple of games for each of their sides, meaning our team played six games back to back without a break and without the luxury of substitutes.

Saturday team was: Jack, Will, Codie, Joe, Noah, Harry and Oli. The lads did themselves and Sedgley Park proud on the day and out of the six games won two, lost two and drew two against a very good opposition. On the day everybody on the team managed to get onto the score sheet but the highlight of the day was some fantastic tries from both Harry Clegg and Jack Stevens. The talking point of the day was a disallowed try from Jack who after a blistering run down the wing scored a great try only to be told by the ref (jacks own father, Tony) that he had stepped into touch and so would not allow the try to stand. Makes you wonder how some people sleep at night!

On Sunday we had a trip out to Liverpool St Helens, the team on Sunday was: Luca, Noah P, Will, Joe, Fin, Codie, Jack, Noah N and Harry.

Game 1. LSH 7 – Sedgley Park 11.
Our first game of the day started in frantic fashion, some fantastic running and passing by both teams saw the scoreboard tick along evenly through the first half of the game. The score at the end of this first period saw Sedgley edging into the lead with a slim 6-5 lead. However as the second half started SP’s tackling got much better and the running and passing carried on as before. This led to SP extending their lead to 11 – 7 as the final whistle went.

Try scorers:
Harry. 2. Noah P. 4 Noah N. 1.
Fin. 1. Joe. 1
Luca. 1. Codie. 1

Game 2. LSH 6 – Sedgley Park 11.
The first game had seemed to settle the lads down slightly and this showed in the way that SP organised their brick wall defence. Throughout both games it was this defence that won the games, SP worked as a team moving and defending their try line superbly and then capitalising on the turnover or the mistakes that SP had forced LSH to make.

Try scorers:
Luca.1 . Noah P. 2. Noah N. 1.
Will.3. Fin. 2. Joe.2.

Well played for both days lads, you did yourselves, your club and your coaches proud.
