On a beautiful balmy evening, Bare's batting buckled under Sedgwick's brilliant bowling blitz.
At last the youth policy paid off as Sedgwick's young lions overpowered the Bare team. Michael Sharp (who lived up to his name), Joe Portman and Chris Evans tore into the opposition's batting line up. They were ably assisted by the ever reliable Simon Willacy and Jason Dalzell, plus a cameo performance from Mike Bracken. The fielding was sharp with very little being given away and Joe Portman took a brilliant catch off his own bowling.
Only two batsmen made it into double figures and the score of 56 all out in under 17 overs was never likely to be enough even though Sedgwick have suffered some trials and tribulations in the batting department this season.
The Sedgwick innings got off to a solid start and over half the runs had been scored before the first wicket (Jason Dalzell) fell. Mike Bracken, who was looking to dazzle with the bat, (and in the sunshine, with his head!) joined Simon Willacy who was looking comfortable at the crease and they took the score closer to the target figure before Simon lost his wicket.
Cue Sean Garnett, who strolled out to the crease with purpose looking to end the game quickly. He played himself in for two balls and then unleashed the Dilscoop. Unfortunately he then trudged back to the pavilion having holed out to short fine leg. More like Poopscoop! but for sheer entertainment value it was the shot of the game, which we now have recorded for posterity. Dan Greenwood joined Bracks at the crease and creamed a drive through the covers for 4 and that was pretty much it. Game over in under 14 overs.
Well done lads, an excellent evening's entertainment. Keep it up!
