Another final for the boys
Sorry it’s a bit late boys.
This week we travelled to PGH up the M6 in the lashing rain thankfully it eased up and the comp began. We were drawn in the hardest group which didn’t bother the lads they know if they perform they can beat anyone and probably would. Our first opposition were VOL who are very good side with big lads and fast! We started or shall I say we were on the pitch we didn’t actually start playing until the second half and once we were away unfortunately our slow start gave them an unassailable lead, we lost 7-2 (our biggest ever defeat) but the tide was turning and in our second game against Tarleton we were more like our old selves supporting and defending superbly … the lads had woken up and we won that game 5-4 we were still in with a shot if we won our remaining games against Fylde and PGH, which the lads did 5-1 and 4-1. The results were good enough for the semis where we faced a very good Warrington side, the final whistle went and 1-1 was the score we opted for sudden death instead of count back in true rugby spirit. We scored the next try and won and so to the final again.
In the final the young guns faced VOL who thrashed us when we were asleep in the first game but the boys were up for it they were not happy after the first game and wanted to rectify their mistakes and that they did every single lad stood proud and strong and gave VOL their hardest game but unfortunately VOL won 4-2. One knock on and a missed tag were the difference, the lads were magnificent every last one shook hands and all gave three cheers, they took it like men (and that’s exactly what they are fine young men!)
We had ten young guns which is a luxury for us and there were no complaints about being subbed. Cameron came on from the bench a couple of times and took some good tags, it’s hard when it’s only 5 mins each half to come on and get straight into the game but he put in a good performance and played a valuable part in the whole day….well done Cameron.
Harvey also came on a couple of times and made a couple of runs he held his own in defence another good solid performance he never gave up and I don’t think he ever will….coming along great Harv.
Max had determination on his face everytime he came on he wasn’t going to let anyone down and he didn’t he took some important tags and was positive in attack….good stuff keep it going.
Isaac on his first ever game in competition played with both spirit and enthusiasm he had no fear running at opposition and finding a teammate with good passing a definite prospect for the remainder of this season and next.
Harry went on a number of exciting runs opening the opposition up and off-loading to a young gun every time, he stood solid in defence, he ran his heart out and full of self-belief he took them on all day ….brilliant H.
Alfie was a true captain and helped inspire the lads with his enthusiasm talking and encouraging every one of his teammates he made some brilliant runs, one in particular stood out were he beat 3 opponents and made a sweet pass to give Roman a winning try. Beautiful. He turned over possession time after time and it showed he wanted to win it he also went over 3 times with determination and power…superb.
Danny played a very important part he never allowed himself to wonder he kept his concentration and determination all through 6 games his tagging was brilliant some try savers, his attack was positive and he got himself 3 tries two against Tarleton “GET IN “ and one in the semis….superb as always.
Sean’s defence was spot –on he was on a mission, his attitude was great and he made a real contribution to the whole day never giving up on anything, He has grown in stature and talent this year never disappointing always committed. His endeavours earned him 3 tries, one of them a tremendous run that stuck in my mind…. What an effort Sean.
Oliver played with all the confidence in the world, he opened defences up and made some telling passes, he had a never say die attitude which never went amiss on his team mates inspiring the lads onto victory, His support play was second to none brilliant and to top it all off he got himself 4 tries…. A pleasure to coach.
Roman played on the wing and made a number of very important tags he like the rest of the lads would not give up sometimes making up metres on the opposition attackers and flying at tags, Roman’s attack was as usual positive he roasted defenders and made some beautiful supporting runs he was rewarded with 6 tries, he had determination on his face from the start (or maybe it was from the second half of 1st game)…..100% given!
Looking forward to Hoylake now we need to keep our record of Tournament finals intact … well done for Sunday boys.
Once again a massive thanks to all parents, grandparents and guardians for their commitment to the cause without you we are nothing.
Thanks Coach
