FOOTPATH FENCE – a great job finished

The fence was completed on Saturday, and once again a huge thankyou goes out to all who donated their time over the last few weeks.
An appeal has just been launched for funds from members to contribute towards the cost of completing the fencing-off of the footpath which has caused us so much harm and aggravation in the past.
A 43m stretch, funded by a joint local authority/Police ‘Citysafe’ anti-crime initiative, was installed earlier this year.
It was while watching the contractors install this stretch of fencing that we thought “we could do that” and subsequently we have sought the best price for this type of ‘palisade’ fencing which would secure our grounds from all but the most determined of unwelcome visitors.
There is 180m of original fencing, most of which requires replacing, at cost of materials alone of £5000.
Although £2000 has been set aside from Club funds for this vital project, I am trying to fund the whole cost of the scheme from donations. This almost unprecedented approach is because there are also two other urgent works which require funding. The first is to replace our electrical distribution boards and the second is to repair the Stand roof which was damaged in an arson attack 2 years ago and is in a desperate condition.
To achieve our goal of £5000 I have written directly to several members (from whom I have had a very encouraging response) and will shortly be writing to local businesses.
However the purpose of this message is to ask all members for a contribution to fund this scheme which is vital to the security of our premises. Any amount would be welcome but obviously the more we receive the better we will be able to complete these urgent works.
