A firm ground yet a strong cross-wind sets the tone of the game

The game was split into 4 quarters of 20 minutes instead of the average 2x40 minute halves. This allowing both teams to field a mixture of different players.
Ash started strong and held Hill deep in their 22 for the opening minutes of the game.
Seghill held strong in defence but fell at the last hurdle to allow Ash to open the try count with a hard earned try.
Seghill got out the blocks and struck back hard constantly pinning Ash in their half. Pressure around the fringes from strong running forwards pushed Ashington back into their own 22. A quick recycled ball from the base of a ruck allowed Ryan Woods to make a break and then an offload to Will Smith eventually got Seghill over the whitewash. A great conversion from the touch line was kicked by Phil Bramble even in the heavy winds, he made it look easy!
The players were fired up and raring to go and soon enough Ash were being pressurised back into their own half again. Seghill continued to knock on Ashingtons door before a storming run from Matthew Sherman added another 5 points to the scoreboard. And of course Phil Bramble successfully kicked the conversion.
The third quarter kicked off and Ashington still had not threatened the Seghill try line due to the fantastic defence of Seghill, there were a couple of big hits, and Hill were pushing Ashington backwards. After a couple minutes of decent Ashington possession the ball was knocked on and Hill were awarded a scrum, the ball was whipped out. A strong tackle from the Ash centre lead to a breakdown, again quick recycling lead to Dave Gregory scoring a beautiful try from a dummy pass. Again the conversion was nailed by Phil.
The last 20 minutes showed the lack of Seghill fitness. Ash played a strong, fresh side with a lot of big runners. Unfortunately Seghill were tired, they were struggling to hold out the Ash attack and rarely gained any possession due to the freshness of the Ashington players.
After holding on for a while the defence began to weaken and Ash ran in 5 unanswered scores.
All in all it was an enjoyable game and although Seghill lost the game overall we can still takeaway a result of winning 3 out of the 4 sections!
