Ripon U14's versus Selby U14's

Ripon U14's versus Selby U14's

A rather depleted Selby U14s team travelled to Ripon’s Mallorie Park ground for their penultimate match of the season.  Right from the kick-off the away team were the side applying all the pressure and, with a rather leaky Selby defence, Ripon scored in the first few minutes.  With so many of the team playing out of position Selby were finding it very difficult to keep their shape and Ripon, taking full advantage of the defensive gaps, were soon 4 tries up without reply. As the game entered the second quarter the Cygnets finally started to gain some possession - Fly-Half Ollie Uren collecting the ball from a successful scrum and outstripping the Ripon defence down the right wing to score under the posts. The last few minutes of the first half saw Selby starting to play more confidently with Hayden Smith,in particular, putting in some good tackles and making strong runs. Just before the whistle blew Selby won possession from a re-start and Noah Dobson outpaced his counterpart down the right wing to score their second. Selby started the second half brightly with Luke Fisher just missing touching down a cross-field kick from Uren but Ripon came back hard and scored again. Selby were to notch up a further two tries, both courtesy of Ripon’s Oscar Lee, guesting for the Cygnets, but the home team were just too strong and soon put the game beyond doubt.  Final Score: Ripon 65, Selby 28
