Narrow win by 17 - 15 against Peebles Colts

Game could have gone either way

Tense encounter by teams evenly matched

Peebles Colts were the visitors to Victoria Park and had only suffered one defeat so far but the Youth Club were ready for a tough game and it proved to be a close encounter with the Youth Club winning by 17 points to 15.
Peebles made a lively start and put the Youth Club under pressure but some desperate defending prevented them from scoring. It took some time for the Youth Club to settle and their forwards were being put under pressure both in the scrums and lineouts. The game got a bit frantic at times with loads of mistakes being made by both teams. After 10minutes the Youth Club were awarded a penalty in the Peebles half but Alan Rutter’s kick drifted wide. Peebles were a well drilled side and after 15 minutes made a break down the wing and despite efforts to stop the onslaught the ball was scrambled over the Youth Club try line in the corner, conversion being missed. The Youth Club battled on and midway through the half full back Rutter made a good break and passed to winger Kerr Gerrard who used his speed and strength to touch down in the corner to make it all square. Peebles worked their way well into the Youth Club half but despite a period of pressure could not find a way through. The Youth Club gained possession and after a few phases of play prop Ciaran Blair rumbled through a number of Peebles tackles to score near the posts leaving Rutter with an easy conversion. The second half was a real ding dong battle with both teams trying to score and Peebles kicked over a penalty to make it 12 points to 8.Half way through the half the Youth Club backs passed the ball well making good yardage and centre Aaron McColm used his strength to shrug of a few Peebles tackles to touch down to make it 17 points to 8. Peebles finished the half strongly and it was only some hard work by the Youth Club team to keep them out. With 5minutes remaining Peebles stole a lineout thrown in by the Youth Club about 10metres out and after recycling the ball used their momentum to score making it 17 points to 15. Peebles made a big push to try and take the lead but the Youth Club kept the ball in the Peebles half and were relieved to hear the final whistle.
