Amos hat trick of tries

After not having a game last week and it being a school holiday week the Youth Club started slowly against Hawick PSA who must be commended for fulfilling the fixture and coming to Selkirk with 17 players. They had also lost their coaching team during the week so their committee should be praised for the way the squad performed.
The PSA took an early lead when their stand off produced a long kick into the Youth Club half and a combination of the high wind and uncertainty resulted in the PSA scoring between the posts and converting. This rattled the Youth Club and it was not until after 10minutes that some good passing play opened up the enthusiastic PSA defence for stand off Matthew Brass to score. The youth Club then lost young prop forward Ciaran Blair with a damaged wrist with Robbie Relly coming on as a replacement. The Youth Club then scored in the PSA corner after some strong running by winger Kerr Gerrard. The PSA tried their best but Aaron McColm won the ball and with a 4 man overlap full back Alan Rutter scored to make it 15 points to 7. The PSA were holding their own in the scrum but were finding the Youth Club backs to be more skilled with centres Jy Griffin and MColm causing them problems. McColm was next to score with Rutter converting. With half time approaching skipper Scott Francis found space down the touchline to score in the corner to make it 27 points to 7 at half time.
The PSA started the second half well and used the wind to their advantage but as the players had not played much together tended to make mistakes but showed enthusiasm throughout the game. The Youth Club players fitness began to show and after some pressure in the PSA 22 Strath MacKenzie charged down a kick which was picked up by hooker Finlay Amos to score. Shortly after a fine break by winger Rory Hamilton set up McColm to score making it 37 points to 7. The PSA were finding it difficult to contain an eager Youth Club team and collapsed in the last 15 minutes of the game with further tries from Amos (2), Rutter, Griffin converted by McColm,a strong run from No 8 Harry Borthwick plus conversion and final try of the day from Francis who again found space down the PSA blindside to score.
