Youth Club in convincing win at Berwick

The Youth Club travelled to Berwick last Saturday with a few players being unavailable but also had some young players having their first game of the season. Berwick were playing their first league game of the season as they had managed to gather a squad together after the English school holidays.
The Youth Club started slowly and Berwick Colts were looking lively by trying to run with the ball at every opportunity. The Youth Club withstood this early pressure and took the lead after 13 minutes when Josh Mackay touched down with Alan Rutter converting. 2 minutes later the strong running on the wing by Kerr Gerrard resulted in him touching down near the corner. The Youth Club were then reduced to 14 players when Robbie Reilly was sin binned by the referee. Berwick were encamped in the Youth Club 22 for a while until the ball was cleared into the Berwick half when chasing Gerrard charged down the Berwick kick with Finlay Amos picking up to score, Rutter converting. This seemed to knock the stuffing out of a brave Berwick team and a couple of tries before half time were scored by Aaron Mcolm and a second for Amos to make the score 31 points to 0.
The second half started with the Youth Club on the offensive and a strong run by Jy Griffin who offloaded to McColm to score his second and debutee fly half Rory Hamilton taking over the kicking duties from Rutter slotting over the conversion. No 8 Harry Borthwick was next to power his way over the Berwick line. Berwick Colts considering it was the first time some of them had played together never gave up and pressed the Youth Club back near their try line until losing position and a long kick upfield was chased by McColm who raced in to score. With Berwick tiring a further 2 tries were scored before full time with Matthew Brass and Borthwick getting his second, Hamilton converting to make the final score 60 points to Nil.
