Jed show their strength

The Youth Club had a tough challenge last Saturday against unbeaten league leaders Jed Thistle. Despite all the bad weather the Youth Club pitch was in good condition it was the blustry conditions the teams had to contend with.
Jed started well and put the Youth Club under early pressure but they were unable to find a way through. The Youth Club survived the early onslaught and after 10minutes scored from a penalty taken by Scott Francis. The lead did not last long as Jed worked their way close to the Youth Club try line and were awarded a penalty that was taken quickly catching the Youth Club napping and scored in the corner to make it 5 points to Nil. Play remained fairly even with the Youth Club players working hard for each other but after 25minutes Jed increased their lead from a well struck penalty. Just before half time with the Youth Club matching Jed they were unfortunate to lose possession in the Jed half and a quick break from Jed resulted in them running in a try which was converted and the result at half time was 15 points to 3.
The second half was fairly even and despite the windy conditions both teams were managing to play some good rugby. Jed however increased their lead when their bigger forwards won a lineout near the Youth Club try line and managed to drive over and touch down, and additional points from the conversion. After 25 minutes of the second half the Youth Club scored a well deserved try finished of by No8 Harry Borthwick. The Youth Club were having a good spell of play and should probably have scored again when Strath MacKenzie made a good break but unfortunately his pass to winger Gregor Grahame went to ground. Just before full time with the Youth Club reduced to 14 men Jed moved the ball wide and with space available managed to score and convert to make the full time score 29 points to 8.
