Close but no Cigar!

A great day had by all teams at the Carnival Sixes tournament featuring a side from Walden Cricket Club, Exeter Uni, Wendens Ambo, Walden Hockey Club and ourselves.

Walden and Sewards End finished the group stages un-beaten withe Sewards End side sweeping past the Hockey Club and the Exeter Uni side without losing a wicket having restricted both sides to low scores with some great bowling and great chases from Harry Wendelken and Chris Hancock

Facing Wendens Ambo in the Semi we looked to be cruising it until we lost two quick wickets. A tight last over with Charlie and Chris in the middle left us needing 3 of the last two balls, Charlie hitting the winning runs with a four hit over the field that had all come in.

The final was played in between rain showers between Exeter Uni who beat Walden in the other semi and ourselves. Exeter batted first and posted a decent but gettable score of 68.

Great batting from Harry Wendelken (hitting the Exeter bowling back over their heads for sixes) and Chris Hancock again saw us off to a good start and we were on the rate but had a sticky 4th over that left us needing 14 off the last. Pinned to his crease Ali Hancock found it hard to get the ball away but managed to squirm a single to bring Dave Foster to the crease with 3 balls to go. A dot first up mean't we needed a wide to have a chance. Unfortunately it wasn't to be but two monster sixes off the last two balls from Foster got us to within 1.

Thanks to Joe and David Barrs and the rest of the Walden crew for putting on a great day and well done to the team for doing so well.
