Youth shining through in great start to the season

Having stepped aside from playing and focusing on the management of the team. I can honestly say that so far this season it has been a joy. The team this season mixed with experience and the youth that have come through from latterly Wanswell Wanderers and recently Terry Gibbs Severnside teams. Being a Goalkeeper it was very easy to step aside and give Ryan Neale a chance in the side. Ryan has proved his place each week and continues to improve week after week. Alex Smith in defence has been solid and when partnered with Ryan Collard or Ben Gibbs have proved strong and firm. Ash Hillier has been excellent as our ultility player playing across the back or midfield. Jamie Bateman & Nathan Priday have shown experience counts at this level. The recent signing of Kier Palmer from Berkeley has strengthed the defence on the left side. Billy King, Jack Williams, Max Brain and Craig Freeman are all part of the ever growing squad. being able to pick from so many good players is a headache but a nice headache to have.

Colin Smith is enjoying an excellent season, the pace may have gone but the experience is showing week in week out. Martin Bennett has an excellent start to the season but a bad cut to his knee against chalford in october has seen him out of action, i hope to include Martin in the neew year. Youngsters Brad Hewer and Dan Turner have settled in nicely providing pace and an abundance of skill and goal scoring ability. Hewer notching 4 against Barnwood and Turner scoring 3 Hat-tricks in 7 league games since turning 16. The future of the club looks great with them.

Captain Ian Watkins has had a great season so far notching 20 goals in all competitions, playing behind target man Mark Dickson who also is in the goals are proving a thorn in the side for all teams in this division.

The year ends with Quedgeley at home on new years eve following by tricky games against the teams above us, Cam Bulldogs, Didmarton and Avonvale.

I believe that with the strength in depth the club currently there is no reason why the reserves cant gain promotion to divison 2. As i say every week to the team, its all about us, it doesnt matter about the other team, if we play how we play we win, Simple!

Merry Christmas
