Sharks' leading points scorer returns after lengthy layoff

Danny Flowers admitted he was overjoyed to have finally made his return to first team action for Shaw Cross Sharks. The Sharks' leading points scorer came back after a shoulder injury which caused him to miss two months of action. Flowers featured heavily in the 16-16 draw with Skirlaugh at the weekend and impressed upon his return.

Flowers forced two goal line drop outs as well as being heavily involved in the Sharks attacking display which culminated in him kicking a successful conversion to bring the Sharks level following a Ryan Chalkley try. The centre said it was good to be back with the team but admitted his fitness was not yet back up to speed.
"My fitness obviously isn't up to the same level as when you're playing every week. After I got into the game I felt quite good, got back into the rhythm and really enjoyed it." He said
"After the first ten or fifteen minutes I didn't feel too sharp but once you get into the game and get that first bit of contact it gets you pumped and gets the adrenaline going and that saw me through"

Flowers' put in an all action performance and says he's pleased with how his return went. "I'm pretty happy for a first game back. I played at half back today instead of centre but I felt I did well. I forced a couple of drop outs and I wanted to help control the game more than anything." He said

He comes back at a critical time for Shaw Cross when their playoff hopes look in the balance after slipping to eighth in the NCL Division One but now face six home games before the end of the season.

Flowers almost had a fairytale return to action but his last gasp drop goal, which would have seen the Sharks snatch the victory, was blocked. However his kicking game looked as though it had not missed a beat. Flowers converted two out of three goal kicks all of the close to the whitewash, he feels his kicking is something which just comes naturally to his game. "It's a shame I couldn't get the other one or the drop goal which could have won it for us I suppose you can't have everything but I think my kicking does come naturally."

His hopes now are for the team to get back to winning ways now they welcome back several key members of the squad. "It's a massive difference to have your experienced players like Rourkey, Fawkesy, Greg. They all make a massive impact on the field and talk you around the game and that's what you need."
