Youngster is in the squad to face Wales in August

Shaw Cross have got members of their open age squad representing their country next month in Brandan French and Sam Ottewell. However the club has quality across all of its age groups with scrum half Josh Pinder recently selected to be in the squad to face Wales on 22nd August.

The 20-man squad will get together on Saturday July 25 for a training session before going into camp in Cardiff on August 19th.

Pinder has had an impressive season for the Shaw Cross Under 15's as well as playing for Wakefield which has culminated in this call up at the second time of asking after failing to be selected for the previous squad.

The 14-year-old couldn't hide his delight at the news, "On the Thursday when I was on my way home from school my mum rang me, I'd got a letter saying I had got in the squad. I was just over the moon."

Pinder had been disappointed earlier in the year, he didn't make the Under 16's team to play two test matches against France but the centre says that it didn't dent his confidence, "To even be considered is great so you know you're doing something right. I didn't get selected but I worked hard to improve and now I'm in, I'm so overwhelmed."

The scrum half can go into the squad relaxed as he is already familiar with some of the players and even his best friend from Dewsbury Celtic will be in the team.

Pinder admits that since the call-up he has raised his game even further and hopes the experience will help him push on to the next level, "It gives you more confidence. It's a huge boost, now I train more intensely, play with more intensity and it gives you the belief that you are a good player."
