From Andrew Langdale : Chairman of Sheffield RUFC

"It is with huge regret that I have to announce the passing of the one and only Glyn Chandler. Glyn pulled on a very large blue and white shirt for a forty minute stint in the 3rd XV...and decided administration was his strength. The Club has not looked back.

His long spell as Chairman of the Age Grade and Youth sections totally transformed the sections taking us from around 200 members to 400+ whilst having time for every single player and parent. Glyn was the focal point of the Club embracing inclusion for all, fair play and also the desire to win at the older levels - the ethos that is now embedded within.

In 2011, my first year as Chairman, Glyn was an immense source of experience and support and it was with pleasure I was able to appoint him a Vice President of the Club. The minutes of that AGM state his VP was ' in appreciation of exceptional services to the Club', no truer words spoken. Following on his Club work Glyn then developed the business award winning Rugger Eds; the UK's first rugby related education programme for 3-6 years old. This has been so successful it is now franchised out to other Clubs and it's been great to see so many of our ex -Colts working in this fantastic venture passing on the skill sets they learnt as an Abbeydale junior.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Sandra, Kimberly and Brad. We as a Club, community, and family, will do our very best to support you. The Board will meet shortly to formulate and announce a way of permanently recognising Glyn. In the meantime there will be a minutes silence before the home game on Saturday. "

A further note from SRUFC Director of Rugby, Jason Soden:

" The club has been rocked this week by the loss of one of its most influential and well-loved members, a man who has done great things for SRUFC both on and off the field, and really pushed our M&J’s forward when he chaired them. We mourn the loss of Glynn Chandler, but will remember him for the great, fun loving guy that he was with a minutes silence before today’s games and the team will do their best to win it for him! "

Glyn will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements will be notified in due course.
