Sheffield return to action at Abbeydale this weekend, welcoming an out of sorts Burton, who have yet to register a point in the table from their two games this season. Sheffield will be hoping to rediscover some winning form themselves following last weekend’s loss away at Broadstreet.
Sheffield will be wary of a Burton team that dominated Midlands 1 West last season, winning 23 of 25 games and finishing 19 points clear of second-placed Dudley.
It will be an encouragement to the home side, however, that they are able to call upon some returning players in key positions. Most notably in the backline, Will Hodgson at fly-half and Lewis Bowman at 13. This allows Ed Topley to move to his favoured position of full-back as he looks to continue what has already been an exciting transition from Senior Colt to 1st Team starter.
The pack sees a change in the second-row where the physical and confrontational Jack Hawley makes his club debut due to the absence of Joe Cooke. There is also an occasion for celebration in the front row, where Dan Rylance will be presented with his 100 cap tie following the game.
Amongst the replacements, there is further cause for celebration as the effervescent Tommy Marples already finds himself prised from his retirement and thrust once more unto the breach!
This promises to be a fascinating encounter, with both teams still feeling their way into a new league, which still looks to have no clear front-runner and plenty of stirring fixtures on the horizon.
