Colts make impressive start to their league program
Superb team performance
On a warm and breezy afternoon, Sheffield made the trip up to the Halifax area to face their nemesis from last year Old Rishworthians.
However boasting a strong team made up of most of the players who played in the U17/18 league last year Sheffield dominated the game from start to finish.
Banishing a slight off day in the victory over Harrogate in the cup, Sheffield’s line out was once again functioning well and the forwards were aggressive with Matt Hale, in particular, winning turnover ball on a number of occasions. This was perfectly complemented with well executed plays by the back line that secured the win.
Tries came from Louis Redfern-Brown, Mike Crehan (who notably made a full length run up the field with Old Rish players hanging off of him), Jude Stokes, Ben Hanney with 2 well worked tries, Sam Veall and Ed Topley. Backed up admirably by Kai Ramratten standing in as kicker in the absence of the injured Ben White.
However to sum up Sheffield’s improved showing in the line out was the try by Tor Borrowdale who upon winning the ball impressively near to the Old Rish line was startled to realise that he was then clean through - the confusion of being in this situation only lasted a nano second and Tor powered over.
It was a great start to the league campaign and the whole team 1-18 can take great credit in the performance.
