An up and down Sunday for the two senior youth teams...

The Sheffield Senior Colts and U17s were both in action this weekend, braving the horrendous weather conditions to offer up two excellent games of rugby.

Despite the advertised fixture being against Doncaster, the U17s ultimately ended up hosting Roundhegians following a late change in opposition. The travelling team unfortunately arrived slightly short of players and a special mention has to go to Conor and Jack, who both played a half of rugby for the visitors.

They were, however, to be the only Sheffield players to experience victory! Despite some ferocious forward pressure from Sheffield the Roundhegians boys showed real character in repelling numerous attacks, as the hosts dominated possession but were met with physicality by a spirited defence.

Roundhegians managed three tries in less than ideal conditions, with their adventure and willingness to go from deep a theme throughout. Sheffield were disciplined and structured in their attack, showing impressive accuracy to draw men into the breakdown, before punishing Roundhegians with width. In the end both teams managed three scores, with the only difference being the visitors accurate kicking at goal in torrid weather.

The Senior Colts, as a pose to their younger counterparts, continued their impressive start to the season with victory over a strong Doncaster side. Again, in driving rain, both teams endeavoured to continue playing their exciting and fast-paced brand of rugby. Still attacking from deep when opportunities presented themselves.

This style has seen the Sheffield boys rack up 134 points in their opening three games. However, their defensive solidarity was what shone through on Sunday. Along with the adverse weather conditions playing a part, the confrontational nature of Sheffield’s defence saw them limit a potent attack to just three points.

This was always to be a platform for success, and with attacking ambition still proving a hallmark of this team, they were able to register 20 points themselves in a convincing win.
