Looking back at 2014/15

The 1st XI had an incredibly successful last term in gaining promotion although this was tinged with regret as we could've/should’ve won the league. By Christmas we were cruising with wins at Durham and Hallam and beating Manchester at home. A demolition of the poly kicked off our season with a victory of 10-2. All the freshers scoring and some unstoppable team play. Mr. Toad, our top scorer for the season, opened his account for the season with a now trademarked ‘Toad push.’ With the socials every Wednesday the team soon formed a cohesive unit and it seemed that nothing would stand in our way.

The snow then fell on Sheffield and without playing for a month the team began to slide away. Some excellent individual performances shone through however, with Scissor charging down the right flank and causing lethal damage. The Bobby 'dink' was also working some magic and chances were laid on plates for our forwards who buried them with aplomb. This was shown by the 11-0 dismantling of Lancaster. However Manchester and Leeds Beckett away both ended in defeat for the mangoes and this brought an end to the title hopes. Missing key men the mangoes also slid out of the cup after committing daylight robbery on Edinburgh whom we defeated in a mammoth stroke contest. However promotion was gained none the less and with a new coach in place we are looking to take Prem B by storm and have a very strong cup run.

The socials this year have been top with the boys taking full advantage of the many drinking games to get the freshers slightly worse for wear! The hockey club is perhaps the biggest and the best at the University of Sheffield and with more success on the way it is difficult to see how this is club is going to backwards any time soon.
