Back-to-back wins for Shelford Women
Old Northamptonians 12 - 35 Shelford Women
Shelford picked up their first points on the road this season with a clinical performance against bottom of the table ON’s. 7 tries, including 5 for returning winger Em Flack, gave the Peacocks a much needed bonus point heading into the halfway point of the league season.
The forward pack continued as they finished last week against Lutterworth, with high intensity and strong ball carrying. Rose Bradshaw’s rich vein of form continued, with her and fellow flanker Abby Skinner regularly making the hard yards look easy. As the ON’s defence inevitably narrowed, the backs made excellent use of the space out wide to give Flack 2 early tries.
ON’s responded, but tenacious tackling from Helen Lambert and Danielle Busby kept them at bay until Blanca Magallon was able to kick clear. A break from Briony Jane Davies put Shelford back in the attacking quarter, allowing LeanneNaomi Robinson to score her first try of the season by going the long way round the ON’s defence.
Flack completed her hat-trick after finishing a well worked team move from a midfield scrum, and added a fourth shortly before the break. 25-0 half time score.
A scrappy start to the second half allowed ON’s to get a foot hold in the game, and they eventually got over for a couple of quick-fire tries. But the final quarter saw the peacocks wrestle back control, with @Tilly getting a deserved try on debut. There was still time for Em Flack to add some gloss to the score line, final score 35-12 to the peacocks.
Some barnstorming runs from second row, Mya Kirkpatrick, saw her voted players’ player of the match. And versatility from flyhalf-come-prop, Zoë May Woodhams, saw her named coach’s player.
