The rain just held off...
The rain held off just long enough for a great game of running rugby between these two teams. Shelford were caught napping in the early exchanges and Hitchin broke the deadlock with a converted try 0-7. Shelford replied immediately with a try from George Crissall, after an uncharacteristic but well executed pick and go from the pacey winger, converted by Rhys Page. 7-7.
Hitchin then dominated the remainder of the half with 3 further tries, one of which was converted, with Shelford then scoring an unconverted try on the stroke of half time through lock Alex Lloyd. HT 12-24.
It was then Shelford's turn to dominate the game with two tries from Jaydon Biggs, both converted by Rhys Page, making the score 26-24.
Hitchin then replied through their pacey winger with an unconverted try out wide. 26-29. With 3 minutes on the clock it was all to play for and Shelford drive up the pitch from the kick off... Hitchin's defense held firm after numerous drives from the home side, but Jaydon went blind to take on two defenders and passed to James Duffy who drove through the final defender to score an unconverted try at the end of the game to seal the win.
FT Shelford 31-29 Hitchin.
