What an absolutely fantastic results for the whole squad. As one of our parents noted "Regardless of which combination of players we have, Shelford always play as a team and put in a great performance". This unity the boys are showing is paying dividends and has strengthen the squad and improved everyone's rugby

Shelford's 20 players made the long journey to Holt and produced some truly excellent rugby against two very powerful, skilful and well coached teams. Both Bury and Holt were tough opposition but the Suffolk cup winners were just that bit more physical and well organised. The standard of refereeing matched the occasion as did the pitch condition and the facilities at Holt rugby club

Our first match was against our long term Suffolk rivals and having seen Bury beat Holt in their first match, the boys knew they were going to be in for a tough game. Both teams basically smash into to each other for 30 minutes, the tackling was ferocious and all the players carried the ball will real intent. With great line speed it was difficult for either team to move the ball wide and it was only when we had front foot ball did we look dangerous in attack

Our first score came from a well worked catch and drive at the line out. Bury had no answer to the power and speed of the maul and Dan Huntly touched down for the try, converted by Osh. The rest of the match was extremely close with nothing between the two teams. Having adsorbed a huge amount of pressure from the Bury side, Shelford broke out with a long kick down field. With the ball turned over by our forwards, we spun it out wide for Jack Smith to score from a fabulously powerful run down the right wing

12 - 0 to Shelford with only minutes left on the clock, Bury continued to attack and were rewarded with a well worked try under the post. The final whistle went and Shelford had won their first match 12-7

The second match against Holt was a very difficult encounter with Shelford having the lion share of possession but the home team tackling their hearts out. The boys had worked out that up the middle was the best way to suck in the Holt defenders before we could push the ball wide. Once we had mastered this, four tries and two conversions with no response, meant that the game was won and the for the first time our u15's squad were Eastern Counties champions

Well done to everyone who made the journey and also to all the boys who contributed to this excellent cup run that started with a win against Wibech. We can now all look forward to the rest of the season as we build towards the tour to Italy and the Perse school tour to South Africa
