Children in school year 4 (born 01/09/2009-31/08/2010) are eligible to play in the U9's. Training is on Sunday mornings from 9.30am throughout September, then the playing season runs from October to late April.
Shelford Rugby Club is a community and grassroots club and our approach is centered on the development of the child, as a player and a person. The ethos of the team is to enjoy rugby in a fun and safe environment, where we encourage the players to do their best on the pitch, but also off the pitch. This is in line with the core values of the RFU: teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
We have a squad of ~35-40 and we always welcome new players (girls and boys), regardless of ability or previous experience. In fact U9's is a good time to start rugby as it is the age group where contact is introduced, starting with the tackle. All our coaches are DBS-checked and have attended RFU safeguarding and age grade rugby courses specific to the U9's.
If your daugher or son is interested in giving rugby a go, get in touch with us or simply turn up on a Sunday morning. *
* children must wear a gumshield/mouthguard and appropriate footwear (boots with round studs - no blades, no trainers)
