U17s at Dover

With league opponents, Bromley unable to raise a side, Sheppey managed to arrange a game down at Dover. Finding the pitch frozen on arrival and with only 14 players, Sheppey were told to make their way to an alternative pitch nearby to take on a Dover side doing well in the league above.
Sure enough Sheppey were slow out of the blocks and on the back foot. The defence was brave but lapses in concentration were punished with a series of tries. Sheppey did have their chances but just could not make the final pass to score. It was not until just before the break when Maleek Williams and Joss Crush from Dover were sin-binned that Sheppey sprang to life.
The second period was much stronger. Keiran Hayes was clean through but could not hold onto the ball, but from fine work from Sam Winrow and Matt Golding, Dane Stickings powered over to score under the posts offering Rhys Mills an easy conversion. Straight from the re-start Dover ran through poor and tiring defence to score, to add to their opening score of the half. From then on it was all Sheppey as they besieged the Dover line playing for pride alone and they were rewarded with a Golding try.
Winger Connor Tomkins was man of the match.
Sheppey will take consolation from the second half performance, which they 'won' 12-10.
