End of season report - By Peter Donald

In a couple of words you could say a long hard season. With everyone looking forward to making a fresh start for the 2009-2010 season after a difficuly year previously the early signs were there with a 9-1 defeat at home in the cup in the first competitive match of the season to show we would have to battle hard for points when the league fixtures started. It would take the team another 5 games before they hit the net again. Some early heavy defeats against front runners in the league dented the teams confidence and it proved to be a difficult first half of the season. Things soon settled into a pattern of defeat and it's a credit to the manager and the lads that they kept their motivation. The defence found it feet towards Christmas and the front players also played their part with a few goals to lift the team as well.

Christmas passed by and in and odd way a month of postponements seemed to give the team some fresh energy and performances and results picked up in no small part to the weekly coaching of Stuart and his team. To be expected losses to highflyers Ravenstone and Wigston were offset by really encouraging performances against other teams. Scorelines didn't really reflect the effort and improvement the team had made. The team improved and on March 7th achieved their first victory with the best performance of the season beating Stoneygate 2-1. Things could have got better with the most exciting game of the season the following week ending up in a 4-5 defeat to Birstall. The players went into their game against Countesthorpe with optimism and after a long period without score the away team took a couple of chances and the game was unluckily beyond Dynamo.

Cruelly the withdrawal of Stoneygate robbed the team of their only 3 points and left the final game against Gilmorton without meaning in terms of league position which was a shame because if it had been a "6 pointer" I feel things may have turned out differently. On a hot day the team battled well in the first half unluckily going 1-0 down just before the end. The game was still in the balance and Sam Lister showed the way with several good attempts to get back in the game. I think the heat and disappointment led to a loss of discipline ultimately that cost Shepshed 4 more goals with Zachary MacDonald netting the consolation. A deflating end to the season but one that should not overshadow the achievements of the team this season. The team developed a good team spirit and showed a lot of commitment and detemination to turn out a team every week. Everyone really deserves a mention from the Goalkeeper through the team to strikers and regular substitutes and I am sure Stuart will announce the normal end of season award. Those who attended the games regularly will know how much the team improved.

Stuart handed the reigns over to Tris at the end of the season and we wish Tris well as he takes on the under 15s for next season. Our thanks to Stuart for the commitment he has shown the the lads and the team. His and the teams efforts certainly deserved more than the final league position. Thanks also to Richard and Derek for regularly stepping in to run the line and to the other parents for transport and support throughout the season.
